Why do epoxy floors fail?
- No grinding. Store kits and etched floors peel because the coating never really bonded.
- Moisture. Vapor coming up through the slab pushes coatings off in blisters.
- Hot tires. Thin coatings soften, stick to tires, and pull up.
- Cracks. A moving crack splits the coating above it.
Newer slabs often have a curing compound or sealer on top that we grind off so the coating can bond.
How do we fix it?
A few damaged spots can sometimes be ground out, patched, and blended in. More often, when a coating is peeling in several places, the rest is not far behind, and the fix that lasts is grinding the whole floor back to sound concrete and starting over. We tell you which makes sense once we see it.
With the slab clean, many owners have us recoat with a fast-cure system to get the garage back sooner. Others switch to a new flake blend.
Epoxy repair FAQs
Can you coat over my old epoxy?
Only if it is still bonded everywhere. We grind it so the new coat has something to grab. Anything loose has to come off.
How do I know if moisture is the problem?
We test the slab. White powder, damp spots, or blisters near the edges are common signs.
